Support our Teachers & Staff

The $25 million budget shortfall recently announced by AAPS and subsequent authorization of layoffs has left teachers and staff uncertain of their jobs for next school year. As members of the Wines PTO, we stand by our teachers and staff as they advocate for alternative ways to address the budget shortfall while ensuring as many teachers and staff can retain their jobs. Our teachers and school staff play crucial roles in shaping our children’s futures and are foundational to Ann Arbor's longstanding commitment to education.

If you are interested in showing your support for our Wines’ teachers and staff, you can take some of the following actions:

  1. Sign and share the open letter to the Ann Arbor School Board advocating for shielding teachers and staff from layoffs, more transparency the Board, and better oversight of the budget.

  2. Submit a public comment to the School Board expressing your support for teachers and staff. A parent from Abbot Elementary has provided sample wording for a message here.

  3. Attend the next Board Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 8th at 7pm.

  4. Join the district wide parent action committee.

  5. Stay up to date on new information and future actions here website or the AAEA link tree.

How to Show up at Wines

Teachers are meeting at the flagpole near the main entrance every morning from 8:25am to 8:36am. Please consider joining them as a sign of solidarity.  Homemade signs are encouraged!
We want to make an especially strong show of support every “Wines Wednesday” where we encourage the Wines Community to meet at the flagpole by 8:25am with homemade signs and wearing blue.
